What You Need to Know First about Joining MTPC

The policy of USPC and MTPC is to admit as local club members all interested young persons who comply with the requirements for membership regardless of race, color, gender, religion, or national origin.  In order to become a club member or maintain membership status, each individual must pay annual club, regional, and national dues.  Each member family must fufuill a minimum of 12 annual volunteer hours on fundraising events and attend 50% of meetings to be a member in good standing.

Pony Club has a 50+ year tradition as a youth organization whose mission is to teach riding, mounted sports, and the care of horses and ponies, therby developing responsibility, moral judgment, leadership and self-confidence.  MTPC does not replace the member's existing trainer relationship & lesson program.  MTPC mounted clinics are a supplement that reinforce the basic foundations or enable a new experience such as Polocrosse, Foxhunting, or Tet.

MTPC may not be appropriate for everyone which is ok.  The time commitment averages 4 hours on a weekend each month with week-long camps in June and July. Members supply their own pony or horse that is suited to their individual ability to ride independently and is well behaved around other horses.  Member families arrange their own equine transport to mounted meetings & competitions.  Parents are expected to attend meetings & events, not to hover over their own child but to organize and assist in the wide variety of tasks required to produce a quality event.  Spending time around horses has inherent risks from the size and speed of these animals.  Although USPC has liability insurance in place for all events, members must sign liability releases and code of conduct agreements.  USPC insurance does not cover transportation of the member or horse to the event site.

If MTPC sounds like the place where you can have fun, make friends, learn self-confidence, and demonstrate your proficiency, please continue through the menu to learn more about the application process for prospective members.
