Organizational Structure
Members join Pony Club through the local club. Each of the 600 local clubs is led by a District Commissioner (DC) who serves in a role similar to a local chapter president in other non-profit organizations. The District Commissioner is required to sign forms that confirm the member and horse are suitable for safe competition at local, regional, and national rallies. Therefore the District Commissioner needs to approve each prospective member's application. Prospective members may not join the national Pony Club directly without applying to a local club for membership.
The District Commissioner is assisted by two Joint District Commissioners who serve in roles similar to a local chapter vice-president in other non-profit organizations. At the Middle Tennessee Pony Club, one Jt.DC is the prior year's DC and the other Jt. DC is the rising DC for the next coming calendar year.
Other local club officers are: Treasurer, Membership Secretary who handles prospective members paperwork, Recording Secretary who takes minutes at executive officer and board meetings.
The District Commissioner, other executive officers, and board members are elected in the Autumn annual meeting by a simple majority vote from a 33% quorum of club Sponsors who are interested parents and local members of the equestrian community who have an interest in pony club's success. People self-select to become Sponsors by completing a basic form, FRIENDS___SPONSORS.pdf and paying a $20 annual fee.
MTPC is part of the MidSouth Region that is led by a Regional Supervisor and Regional Officers who organize the regional competitions among local clubs; host upper level testing of member candidates at the C3 through A ratings; and coordinate specialty clinics.
The National Office in Lexington, KY provides the administrative, legal, insurance, and financial support for all regions and local clubs with a small paid staff of 18.
